TMTA Events
TMTA Student Affiliate
Student Affiliate is a TMTA program that provides opportunities and incentives to students at all levels of musical development. Students enrolled as TMTA Student Affiliates may participate in any of the following activities:
TMTA Theory Tests
Local Performance Contest
Original Composition Contest
World of Music Test
Students who participate in Student Affiliate activities for a number of years may be eligible for awards from TMTA. Visit the TMTA website at www.tmta.org or consult your TMTA Handbook for more information.
TMTA Theory Test
A statewide theory test is offered twice a year to Student Affiliate members. Taking and passing the theory test is a basic requirement for many other Student Affiliate activities.
Entry fee: $20.00 per student

For both testing periods, testing will be proctored by teachers. Please watch your email for any changes that might occur. All deadlines are postmark dates.
TMTA Local Performance Contest
Entry Deadline: January 23, 2026
Local Entry Fee: $25.00 (Grades 7-12); $30.00 (Post-12 Young Artist)

TMTA Original Composition Contest
Entry deadline: Friday, December 1, 2025 (postmark)
Local entry fee: $25.00
Entrants must be Student Affiliate members and must pass the TMTA Theory Test to participate.
TMTA World of Music Test
Tests for grades 1-3 will be based on World of Music by Carolyn Jones Campbell and illustrated by William L. Gillock. Tests for grades 4-12 will be based on The World of Music: A Music History Syllabus by Elinor L. Duff.

SAMTA Events
JK Hodges Piano Competition

SAMTA Achievement Auditions
The Achievement Auditions are an annual event, open to all students of SAMTA teachers, regardless of age or level of ability. This is an excellent means for all of our students to receive comments and suggestions from other respected musicians. As a bonus, outstanding performers may be chosen to participate in the Judges’ Choice recital.
